    Description

But for looking closely at a citrus juicer he owns, and then noticing its identical pattern to that of this jar, seller would not have known he possessed a
Hazel-Atlas "Criss Cross" pattern refrigerator bottle, circa 1935.
It is worth remembering that in its lifetime, it likely resided first in iceboxes and then, later, in refrigerators.
Seller found this bottle himself in an old farmhouse bottle dump, and so knows it to be the authentic real thing. Indeed, he thinks it utterly remarkable that it survived unbroken. And where could you find another like it? Only as a "wild-caught" bottle, the bottle bears evidence of its decades in the wild, notably in so-called
    glass sickness
    that is
visible more from one side than the other. This condition
appears as cloudy streaks and patchy areas inside the jar.
Seller understands that such glass deterioration results from water sitting in the bottle and leaching minerals out of the glass, from water evaporating and depositing minerals in the bottle, and/or to varying degrees from both circumstances. It any case, it is regarded as generally
    not
    correctable,
whatever attempts or efforts may be made
    .
The bottle is clean, and the sick condition is not very noticeable when viewed from one side, and is largely unnoticeable, happily, if the jar has been filled with water. There is also some light yellow brown staining to the inside bottom that seller thinks to be iron from other cans in the same bottle dump or else organic coloring from leaves.
    The jar
    holds 64 ounces (1/2 gallon)
full to its neck, and could be used at buyer's discretion. It is not cracked or chipped, not even all scratched up, and its
    screw-on aluminum cap
    , with its
    residue of red paint
, is intact. Respecting other condition points, one must keep in mind that the bottle lay in the woods for 60 or more years. Needless to say, bottle is offered here
    "as-is."
